Capital-case “Agile” is everywhere: in job descriptions, company websites, and sales pitches. The tech industry loves being able to call everything they do “Agile”. Is this what we wanted when the movement started with the Agile Manifesto? In my talk, I’ll argue that we don’t want Agile the brand, we want agile software practices, agile project management, and agile product development. In particular, we’ll see that Scrum (including the sprints, demos, and retrospectives that are associated with it) are separate from agile-leaning patterns. Additionally, I’ll explore what teams can do to make incremental progress towards agile pratices without making the massive change to Agile-the-brand.
